This program is available at our Erie campus and will teach you the skills you need to drive semi-trucks. You’ll learn laws and regulations, including logging, compliance and trip planning, as well as gain experience performing driving maneuvers like making turns, backing with a trailer and avoiding skids. Road safety and all federal and state guidelines are integrated throughout the training program.

CDL Training Application Requirements

The following requirements must be met to apply for CDL training at IMBC:

  • Valid high school diploma or GED
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Provide PA. Department of Transportation drug screen
  • Provide PA. Department of Transportation physical exam
  • Provide Motor Vehicle Report—acceptable driving record
  • Provide a current criminal background check (within last 30 days)

What kind of jobs can I get with a CDL?
A CDL offers an incredible variety of employment opportunities. You can work as a local driver and be home every night, or find a position as a long-haul over-the-road trucker and make a career out of traveling. Nearly every industry requires trucking, so the possibilities are endless.

Upon completing this program, you’ll be prepared to work as an entry-level CDL driver in a variety of settings, including:

  • Freight carriers
  • Heavy equipment hauling
  • Delivery services

Employers may require a criminal background check prior to beginning your employment. Please speak with your IMBC admissions representative prior to enrolling in this program if a background check presents an obstacle for you. Students may need to relocate to obtain gainful employment.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field of Heavy and Tractor-trailer Truck Driving will add about 122,100 new jobs between 2020 and 2030. There are approximately 1,951,600 jobs in the field as of 2020.
